Job overview

Ward 2A is a 20 bedded ward, caring holistically for patients who have undergone vascular surgery.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Registered nurse with substantial vascular surgical experience to join our team on Ward 2A as a Band 6 l. The successful candidate will have excellent leadership/educational skills and display a ‘can do attitude’.

Main duties of the job

Registered  nurse with substantial acute vascular post-graduation experience.

Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team. Supportive to all Bands and other members of the multidisciplinary team we work closely with.

Up to date supervising/assessing experience, to help support  the Ward team and students.

Our friendly Ward team is comprised of

matron, ward manager, ward sisters, registered nurses,therapists, healthcare assistants,ward clerks and students. We are looking for a special person with the ability to priorotise and communicate effectively, excellent time management skills and the confidence and competence to work both independently and within the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Our friendly multidisciplinary team is comprised of  7 consultants,junior doctors, advanced nurse practitioners, pain team and  therapy team.

The ward team is comprised of the matron, ward manger, ward sisters, RN’s, RNA’s, TNA’s, HCA’s and a ward clerk.

We are looking for an RN with specialist vascular experience, the ability to prioritise and communicate effectively, excellent time management skills and the confidence and competence to work both independently and within the team. Displays clear compassionate leadership qualities.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate providing high quality care without direct supervision.

To work effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary team ensuring al pateints receive holistic care.

To manage a caseload of patients within the clinical area.

To take charge of the daily running of the ward, keeping capacity and flow within the ward and our patients safe.

Co-ordinating the staff on duty, reviewing the roster regularly to manage vacancies and escalate gaps appropriately when required.

Carry out audits on the ward, supporting the ward manger and matron to achieve trust targets.

Communicate effectively with all members of the ward and multidisciplinary teams.

Demonstrate the ability to assess patients condition and implement and evaluate appropriate care within the multidisciplinary team.

Ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately.

To delivery safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and esources safely. Supporting junior members and students to develop their skills and experience to take charge of the team/ward.

To adhere to trust guidelines, policies and procedures when at work. Demonstrate an awareness of the code of professional conduct.

Participate in assessing/supervising updates in order to support students and other members of our team.Keep Trakcare, EPR and Safe care up to date – leading the team to achieve and maintain the targets set by the trust.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse
  • Educated to a degree level in relevant field
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Completion of Bronze or Silver QI

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience of working in an acute vascular environment
  • Evidence of building effective working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of leading and managing change
  • Evidence of link nurse responsibilities/specific team involvement

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice
  • Expert vascular nursing skills
  • Work with enthusiasm and genuine interest within the multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of Safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Understand and be committed to good record keeping using the Trusts electronic and paper methods
