Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Same Day Emergency Care team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are delighted to be able to offer a post at this exciting time to an expanding team. We are seeking motivated, dynamic advanced nurses with considerable acute nursing experience looking for a challenging and rewarding career within Same Day Emergency Care. 

Main duties of the job

Working within the existing Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team to contribute to the enhancement and development of SDEC services, with a particular focus on the delivery of high-quality care within a busy ever-changing environment. As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, you will ensure high quality patient-centred care by demonstrating expert clinical practice, advice, a passion for education and effective clinical management of all patients accessing SDEC.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Medical SDEC provides a 12-hour, 7-day service across site in line with national guidance. The team deliver care both in Gloucester Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital as part of a high functioning multi-disciplinary team.

Medical SDEC focuses on best care in the right place the first time, with a strong focus on admission avoidance and reducing length of stay where possible. Successful applicants would work alongside allied health professionals to provide a flexible service that is truly fit for the future.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing Midwifery Council with a extensive post registration experience.
  • Recognised Clinical Assessment Qualification (PACR)
  • Recognised Teaching and Assessing for Nurses Qualification
  • Recognised Degree level education within relevant area of practice and willingness to work towards MSc
Desirable criteria
  • Non-Medical Prescriber


Essential criteria
  • Enhanced knowledge and experience of working within Acute Medicine/ Admission Avoidance services

  • Appropriate experience of working within Acute Medicine/ Admission Avoidance services

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Teaching and Assessing for Nurses Qualification
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective service and care delivery.
  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates ability to keep up to date with professional issues that influence Therapy practice relating to area of clinical practice, management, education and research.
  • Able to contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/protocols/guidelines relevant to area of practice.
