Job overview
The Estates Department are looking to recruit a Maintenance Assistant to join our dedicated team here at Gloucestershire Managed Services. This role potentially could turn into an apprentice role dependant on applicant.
The main duties of the post holder will include assisting tradesmen and technicians on skilled tasks, general unskilled maintenance duties and participating in lighting and water management duties.
Main duties of the job
To carry out unsupervised work of a routine nature to assist in the provision of an efficient maintenance service
To support craftsman in the carrying out of more skilled work to service and maintain plant and equipment
To assist all trades as may be required and to have a flexible approach on trade boundaries
To work as a part of a small team working together to achieve common objectives
To have the ability to fault find on minor jobs
To demonstrate activities to new staff
To ensure customer satisfaction by giving a quick response and high-quality service
To accurately record time and materials used in carrying out works to enable job monitoring to be carried out
To report any defects to plant equipment or building fabric to the workshop manager
To be based at Cheltenham General Hospital but will be expected to work anyway that the trust provides services

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To have the necessary experience to be able to work to a good standard with the minimum of supervision
To be competent to work on a range of duties which encompass various trades and skills but do not need the attention of a fully qualified tradesmen
The ability to safely use a range of tools both mechanical and electrical
To understand and be able to comply with relevant statutory and health and safety legislation and trust policies
To have working knowledge of electrical, mechanical plant and building services
To attend training courses as necessary to improve working skills and practice
To hold a full driving license

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE's or equivalent (Grade C or above) inc Maths & English
Desirable criteria
- To hold a full current driving license
- First Aid
Experience
Essential criteria
- To have knowledge of building engineering services
- To support craftsmen carrying out skilled work
- To carry out unskilled maintenance tasks
Desirable criteria
- To have some experience of standard computer software systems
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- To have sound knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and legislation
