Job overview


This is a specialist Breast Radiology post (screening/symptomatic).

These posts have come about due to retirement of colleagues from the Breast Imaging service.

Experience in mammography, breast US scanning and biopsy procedures is essential. The appointee would join the breast imaging team and contribute to clinical governance in the breast department.  Non-breast work will be dependent upon the interests of the candidate.

Candidates must hold a Fellowship at the Royal College of Radiologists or an equivalent qualification, and should be broadly trained in Radiology.   Candidates would be expected to hold a CCT (or be within six months of obtaining it) and be included in the Specialist Register.

The Successful candidates will attract an enhanced recruitment package of up to £15,000 which includes a £5,000 recruitment payment and £10,000 recruitment allowance. Further information regarding this package can be discussed with the contact below or at interview

Main duties of the job


  • The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high quality care to the patients presenting to the Department
  • To examine and treat patients on the shop floor of the Department
  • To support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff

Essential criteria
  • Full General Medical Council registration.
  • On GMC Specialist Register via:  CCT or CESR-CP (Combined Programme) (proposed CCT/CESR-CP date must be within 6 months of interview)  CESR or  European Community Rights
Desirable criteria
  • Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to the specialty

  • Evidence of a broad training in general radiology and cross-sectional imaging.
  • Evidence of appropriate sub-specialty training in screening and symptomatic breast imaging including cross-sectional imaging and intervention appropriate to breast imaging.
Desirable criteria
  • Fellowship training in breast radiology

Management & Administrative skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of participation in Audit and Clinical Governance Programmes
  • Ability to manage and lead a breast imaging team

  • IT skills including database management and word processing skills
  • Attendance on a management course
