Job overview

The post-holder provides strategic and clinical leadership for the Division through delegated authority from the Chief of Service including budgetary sign off during times of leave. The post holder will support the Chief of Service (CoS) in assuring clinical commissioning, clinical governance and clinical quality across the division

Main duties of the job

Establishing effective working relationships across clinical and professional groups will be key to the success of the role, including participation in decision-making, target setting, leading on job planning for the Division and with agreement with the CoS lead on certain projects / aspects within the division.  The post-holder may be requested to deputise for the CoS at meetings including but not limited to Trust Leadership Team, Diagnostics Programme Board, ICS Outpatients Board, Serious Incident investigation meetings, and Job planning consistency meetings

The accountability is to the Chief of Service supported by the Specialty Directors.  In addition he/she is supported by dedicated finance, information, human resources and risk management staff.  It is expected that this sub-divisional leadership and responsibilities will ensure clinical engagement and accountability.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of clinical strategy development
  • Experience of developing new models of care and implementing service redesign inside and across directorate/organisational boundaries
