An exciting opportunity has arisen in Breast department for a Band 4 Secretary Supervisor,

This post is for 37.5 hours a week spilt over 5 days

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a well-organized, efficient medical secretary with excellent secretarial skills to supervise, support and lead part of the administrative team in the Breast Department. The successful candidate will be expected to manage a medical secretarial workload together with the added responsibilities of the Secretary Supervisor role to include line management, appraisal, annual/sick leave management, workflow management and support for service innovation and delivery.

An ability to prioritise effectively in a busy environment is essential as is being able to lead and supervise a team to ensure the needs of the service are met.

This is a responsible role, and you will be expected to use your own initiative, make decisions and deal sensitively with patients, their relatives and the wider healthcare team

Essential criteria
  • Medical Secretary Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Educated to GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy
  • Appropriate medical secretarial experience
  • Excellent organisational skills to manage own workload and assist clinical team/department/consultant etc in running a smooth service
  • Good knowledge of RTT – 18 week wait times.
  • Motivated and innovated, taking the lead on service improvement and new ways of working/delivering targets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a good command and understanding of English, punctuation and grammar
  • Ability to use own judgement and initiative
  • Ability to identify and advise on training needs.
Desirable criteria
  • RSA Level three/Speed typing qualification or able to demonstrate equivalent skill (proficient and accurate Audio typing skills (minimum 60 wpm)
  • NVQ in Administration level 3
  • Experience of or a qualification in medical terminology
  • Proven supervisory experience
