We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Band 7 Theatre Practice Development Team Lead

 

We are looking for a dynamic enthusiastic individual (RN or ODP) who will be able to lead the team of Practice Educators as they provide education and clinical skills training to staff, apprentices and students alike.

 

 

Using their previous experience of working in an acute clinical setting the successful applicant will have opportunities abound to demonstrate their tenacity in pursuance of goals to bring the best in clinical education for staff, apprentices and students

 

This role calls for a special person who is driven to achieve and make a difference

Main duties of the job

  • To be managerially and professionally accountable, thorough their team, for the effective delivery of all clinical training, Basic Life Support and Manual Handling training
  • To be responsible for the management of all learners based in theatres across site and the maintenance of an up to date register of Surgical First Assistants for assignment in hours, or bank shifts, for the different specialities as required
  • Working in conjunction with the Theatre QI and Project Lead the applicant will support clinical audits with a view to ensuring training which supports audit findings

 

  • There will be an expectation that the successful candidate will have experience of both management and report writing and be able to prepare sound business cases as required

 

  • The successful candidate will have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and a proven commitment to patient focused excellence

 

 

 

  • Ability to work on own initiative within the parameters set by senior management

Ability to quickly gather key information, especially when changes to practice are required, and ensure the team respond with timely training material and schedules

Working for our organisation

Our Trust has 30 operating theatres across three sites and employs approximately 475 theatre staff. We have a wide range of specialties serving adults and Paediatric patients. These include General Surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, Vascular, Emergency Surgery, Head & Neck and Obstetrics

 

This role will give the successful applicant great opportunities to impress with their abilities to lead a team of senior, technically proficient staff responsible for the training of others

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Active registration with the NMC/HCPC
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation
  • Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment
  • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate
  • Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice
  • Able to supervise all grades and levels of staff to ensure effective service and care delivery
  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to degree standard/evidence of ongoing study/prepared to start study programme
  • Previous experience in a relevant speciality
  • Demonstrates ability to keep up to date with professional issues that influence practice in specialist area, management, education and research
  • Able to contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/protocols/guidelines relevant to area of practice
