1.0 WTE Band 6 Specialised Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) cancers Dietitian (Substantive)

This new role provides an exciting opportunity to work within a regional Oncology Centre developing nutritional care to patients experiencing UGI cancers.
We are looking for an experienced and skilled Dietitian to support the implementation of this nutritional care. Working across our sites in delivering this care throughout the patient’s treatment pathway, including in/outpatient clinical areas alongside our UGI MDT, Trust Dietitians in Cancer care, Pre-habilitation, Home enteral feeding, etc. and in conjunction with Dietetic colleagues in neighbouring Trusts/Tertiary centres.
Your role will be directly supported by a Band 7 Highly specialist UGI Dietitian.

Main duties of the job
Experienced within the NHS on aspects of nutritional care for those adult patients receiving radical and palliative care for UGI cancers. Knowledge and experience of oncological and surgical treatments and delivering complex enteral nutritional support is beneficial.
We are looking for looking for well-developed communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills
You will need to be an active and integral member of the Dietetic and multidisciplinary professional UGI cancer Team at all levels, in addition to being a highly skilled autonomous practitioner. You will also be able to demonstrate flexible working.
Working for our organisation
We are a large friendly department based on 2 sites; Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) & Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH).
Within the department at GRH we have a team of Renal Dietitians, Paediatric Dietitians plus a Home Enteral Feed Team. At CGH we have a team of Oncology Dietitians plus the Acute team. We also have a Nutrition Team, a Specialist Gastroenterology Team and Specialist Diabetes dietitians working on both hospital sites.
Gloucestershire is a great area of the country in which to live with many areas of outstanding natural beauty, as well as excellent transport networks to the rest of the country.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be directly responsible to the Joint Nutrition and Dietetic Service/Oncology Dietetic Lead and based on either the Gloucester or Cheltenham site. You will be working alongside the multidisciplinary team to design, plan, deliver, monitor and develop high quality nutritional care and education to patients with Upper GI cancers. Delivering complex nutrition support needs to this in and out-patient cohort.
You will be actively involved in the supervision, education and development of designated Band 6 and 5 staff and also contribute to the training of A, B & C students each year.

Qualifications / Experience
- Degree/Diploma in Dietetics
- Registered with HCPC
- Post registration training e.g. Masters level in dietetics
- Experience of working within the NHS
- Demonstrate specialist clinical knowledge in UGI cancer care
- Demonstrate experience of involvement in service development
- Develop and deliver training materials to a variety of audiences
- Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible
- Experience of effectively working relationship within a team
- Prioritise workloads
- Implement evidence- based practice.
- Member of the British Dietetic Association
- Attendance on relevant accredited courses
- Training and /or demonstrated experience in Leadership and Development
- Demonstrate specialist clinical knowledge in decision making all types of enteral/parenteral feeding
- Demonstrate specialist clinical knowledge in decision making and parenteral tube feeding
- Demonstrate contribution to treatment pathways and outcomes that have resulted in improvements
- Experience of Leading and managing staff
- Be responsible for clinical supervision of junior staff and students
- Experience in implementing clinical governance
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
