Job overview

Are you looking for something a little different? An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. We are delighted to recruit an additional  Training Lead join the wider department to develop our staff. This role is suited to an experienced clinical dietitian that wishes to expand their leadership, networking skills and utilise your training and education skills and experience to help train and develop our Band 5’s to Band 6’s in development posts. This post will also link in with the student, dietetic support worker training and their lead. This is a fixed team 12 months, part time job, working 18.75 hours per week. You will be expected to work at both Cheltenham General and Gloucester Royal Hospitals with an option of hybrid working. We would also consider a jobshare if you wished to maintain a clinical role.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining the Department of Nutrition Dietetics and working closely with the Home Enteral Feeding Team Training Leads in further developing training clinical frameworks aligned with the BDA post Registration Professional Development Guidance in collaboration with the speciality teams within the department. You will also work across the organisation and link in with posts within the County (One Glos) and universities. Currently in the department we have run these posts in Paediatrics but looking to expand into other areas. The role will not only involve further development of these frameworks but also education and training. You will also have oversight of the training requirements of the team, liaising with the other leads to support individual personal development plans and training requests.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will be an experienced Dietitian who should be able to demonstrate the ability to follow own initiative proactive and be able to think strategically about the future development of dietitians, a passion for quality improvement and have excellent communication skills. You should also provide evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to this post, particularly around leadership skills. Further training will be encouraged.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Dietetics
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Attendance on relevant accredited courses
  • Training and /or demonstrated experience in Leadership and Development
  • Experience of working within the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration training e.g. Masters level in dietetics
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association
  • Experience and or qualifications in training/education/teaching/presenting

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate specialist clinical knowledge
  • Demonstrate knowledge/experience of service development identify development needs/ gaps for training provision
  • Develop and deliver training materials to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible
  • Experience of effectively maintain working relationship within a team
  • Prioritise workloads
  • Implement evidence- based practice.
  • Be responsible for clinical supervision of junior staff and students
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate contribution to developing strategy and outcomes that have resulted in improvements
  • Experience in implementing clinical governance

Essential criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening, caring and empathy skills and can relate well to staff and patients.
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills including active listening skills.
  • Ability to assess individuals with complex medical problems and to plan their dietetic care
  • Ability to make decision regarding change of practice based on clinical evidence and to disseminate same to other health professionals.
  • Able to implement research evidence based practice and apply to practice for continuous service improvement
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • To demonstrate Trust required behaviours in working towards Individual, Department, Divisional and Trust Objectives/Goals.
  • Ability to deliver education sessions to patients, colleague and healthcare staff
  • Prioritisation, planning and organisational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines
  • The ability to manage change and conflict to ensure resolutions with positive outcomes.
  • Evidence of Continued CPD, including evidence of reflective practice, service evaluation and utilisation of best practice.
  • Excellent computer literacy skills: email, data input, internet, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours, including occasional evenings if the service requires.
  • Able to travel to other hospital sites and community locations.
